Belonging to the generation of young international classical musicians who are defying definition, flutist ERIC LAMB is steadily making a name for himself as a chamber musician, soloist, recitalist and lecturer.
Eric is a core member of the New York/Chicago based International Contemporary Ensemble - ICE. Since joining ICE in 2008, he has recorded on Tzadik, Kairos, Bridge, NAXOS, Mode, Nonesuch, New Amsterdam and New Focus labels. He has given world and U.S premiers of more than 200 works and has worked closely with John Adams, Kaija Saariaho, George Lewis, Marc-Andres Dalbavie, Matthias Pintscher, Reinbert de Leeuw, Pablo Heras-Casado, Steve Schick and Pierre Laurent-Aimard.
Apart from his commitments with ICE, Eric is in demand internationally as a soloist, recitalist, concert curator and chamber musician. He has performed as a soloist throughout Europe and appears often in concert series' in Berlin, Basel, Rome, Paris and Frankfurt. Recent engagements have included performances with the Cologne Chamber Ensemble, Polish Kammerphilharmonie, the City of Giessen Orchestra, the Plymouth Canton Symphony Orchestra, ICE and the Chicago Composer's Orchestra. As a chamber musician he performs regularly with the Faust Quartet, clarinetist Dimitri Ashkenazy, harpist Nuiko Wadden and his longtime duo partner, flutist Claire Chase.
Eric has been a regular guest with major orchestras and ensembles including the HR Radio Orchestra Frankfurt, Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, Chamber Opera Orchestra of Frankfurt, the City of Birmingham Orchestra, Ensemble Labortorium Basel, ASKO/Schönberg Ensemble, Ensemble Recherche, Alarm Will Sound, American Contemporary Music Ensemble and the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra.
He continues to be a much sought after pedagogue and teacher and is regularly invited to present workshops, master classes and lectures throughout Europe and the US. He has been artist in residence at the Conservatoire Nationale de Musique et Danse La Rochelle, Eastern Michigan University, Smith College, the University of Virginia, University of South Carolina, Academie für Musik Wiesbaden and Northwestern University.
A native of Detroit Michigan, Eric completed studies at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the class of Michel Debost. He holds both a Diploma of Orchestral Performance and a Soloist's Diploma - Germany's highest and most prestigious music degree - from the Hochschule für Musik Frankfurt am Main, where he studied with Thaddeus Watson. He was a recipient of the Millennium Young Artists' Award from the James Tatum Foundation of the Arts, the National John Philip Sousa Award and a Dean's Talent Scholarship from Oberlin College. He was a finalist at the International Music Competition "Pacem in Terris" (Bayreuth, Germany) and he won first prize in the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Chamber Music Competition, first prize in the Lenzewski Music Competition followed later that year with first prize in the German Academic Exchange Performing Arts Competition, where he was also awarded the Goethe Prize. He received additional musical training at the Sculoa di Musica di Fiesole, Italy under the guidance of Chiara Tonelli.
