The International Contemporary Ensemble - ICE

Picture
The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), described recently in the New York Times as “one of the most adventurous and accomplished groups in new music” and by the New Yorker as “a powerhouse of new-music programming on a Chicago-New York axis…brilliant and unexpected” is a uniquely structured chamber music ensemble comprised of thirty dynamic and versatile young performers who are dedicated to advancing the music of our time. Through innovative programming, inter-disciplinary collaborations, commissions by young composers, and performances in nontraditional venues, ICE brings together new music and new audiences.

Eric Lamb and Claire Chase are 'WIRED'

Picture
The dynamic and brilliant Claire Chase and I have been partners in music for over a decade. Our story as friends and colleagues began in 1997 when we were both hired to be the flute section of a small collegiate summer opera company based on Cape Cod, Mass. It was love at first major third! The chemistry was so powerful that it drew me to Oberlin, where I transferred and completed my studies. During our time together at Oberlin and in the class of Michel Debost, we both deepened our love for chamber music, and particularly music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Together again, we share the role of 'principal flutist' of the International Contemporary Ensemble and champion new works for multi-flutes and electronics. Most recently we have commissioned works by Pablo Chin, Sebastian Huydts and Marcos Balter. This summer, we had the privilege of performing together at the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival in Lockenhaus Austria. My work with Claire is one of the largest blessings of my life.
